Hello Community Partners -

Hope you are well! I'm happy to announce that, after many staff transitions, we are back to having six Community Programs Liaisons here at HPCDP. Our existing team of April, Jacqueline, Sabrina and Tara are now joined by Rebecca Pawlak (Heart Disease and Stroke Program Coordinator) and Tia Skerbeck (TPEP Coordinator).

Many of you know Rebecca from her work with the statewide Clean Indoor Air Act compliance study and hookah assessment, as well as her recent support with the TCIP initiative. Tia comes to us with experience in tobacco, physical activity and nutrition, in the tribal, county, and military settings, as well as experience in environmental education.

Tia says: "I have recently moved to the Portland area from my hometown of Port Angeles in Western Washington. For the past two years I have been the Community Programs Coordinator at Olympic Park Institute, located in Olympic National Park. I am currently pursuing my M.P.H. through a distance program at the University of Washington (UW). My previous experience in public health is best highlighted through my ten years served (and working on ten more) in the Army Reserves under the Public Health Command, and with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Community Health Department. Other than work and military, I spend my free time enjoying the outdoors with family and friends."

Rebecca says: "I have been working with HPCDP in various capacities for a little over a year. Previous projects include assessing smoke shops and hookah lounges in Oregon, ICAA certification/citations, bill analysis and WEMS training. I recently worked as a coordinator for the Tobacco Control Integration Project with a focus on Tobacco-free DHS. I am excited to join the Community Programs team and continue to interact with local communities. I grew up in a small Wisconsin town which instilled a love for football and the outdoors. I recently graduated from Portland State University with a Masters in Public Health. Since then, I have had the time to enjoy hiking and camping - I am always looking for Oregon adventure suggestions! I look forward to continuing my work with HPCDP in my new role as a Community Programs Liaison and Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Coordinator. "

We have done some re-arranging of liaison assignments in order to better serve grantee technical assistance needs, and to improve coordination with the Regional Support Networks. Please see the attached PDF for liaison assignments for our team that will go into effect Friday October 14.

I'd like to send out special thanks to April, Jacqueline, Sabrina and Tara for all their work to support our local partners - and each other - during our staffing shortage. Please join me in thanking them for their great work at your next opportunity. In other news, I'm also happy to announce that Kati Moseley gave birth to a healthy baby boy on September 25. Mom and baby are doing great.

Thanks for your partnership, and all you do to support healthy communities!

- Luci
