Tribal Coordinators,
As I mentioned on this morning's optional TA call, the CDC plans a press event on Thursday, January 16, 2014 to release the 2014 Surgeon General's report: "The Health Consequences of Smoking - 50 Years of Progress: A Report of the Surgeon General."

We look forward to working with you to commemorate the first Surgeon General's Report on Smoking and Health and to use this anniversary to help make the next generation tobacco-free.

Please be in touch if you have any questions or would like to share ideas and brainstorm ideas for earned media hooked to this report.

Thank you,
Kati

Subject: 50th Anniversary Surgeon General's Report on Smoking and Health to be released on January 16!

Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to announce the release of "The Health Consequences of Smoking-50 Years of Progress: A Report of the Surgeon General" on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at a press conference in Washington D.C. The report will highlight major accomplishments in tobacco prevention and control over the past 50 years, present new data on the health consequences of smoking, and discuss scenarios that can potentially end the tobacco epidemic in the United States.
We invite you to help us promote this historic event in newsletters, emails, or updates that you share with your partners and associates. Details for the press conference will be provided closer to the actual date. The event will be live-streamed and the link will be provided to you in a future email.
We also want to make you aware of a new resource on the Surgeon General's Web site called "Clearing the Air", a podcast with Cynthia Hallett, Executive Director of Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights. The podcast stresses the urgency to clear the air of secondhand smoke so everyone is equally protected from the negative health effects caused by smoking in the workplace. You can find the podcast here:
