Updating Oregon's Healthy Future (the State Health Improvement Plan) through State-wide Outreach

Oregon's Healthy Future is the Statewide Health Improvement Plan<https://public.health.oregon.gov/ProviderPartnerResources/PublicHealthAccreditation/Pages/HealthImprovement.aspx> (SHIP). It was developed through stakeholder process in 2012 and relied on results of community engagement processes from 2010 and 2012. The vision of Oregon's Healthy Future is that communities are empowered to improve the lifelong health of all people in Oregon. The current priorities are to improve health equity; prevent and reduce tobacco use; slow the increase of obesity; improve oral health; and reduce substance abuse and other untreated behavioral health issues.

To facilitate an update to Oregon's Healthy Future that reflects the needs of key partners and communities throughout the state, Director Lillian Shirley and staff from the Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division (OHA-PHD) will embark on a community engagement initiative May - August 2014 as part of updating the SHIP. Through the community engagement initiative, OHA-PHD hopes to engage Oregonians by asking for their input on the SHIP, identify gaps and unmet community needs in the current version, understand how the SHIP aligns with CHIPs, coordinate overlapping efforts by leveraging resources on shared strategies, determine where OHA-PHD can provide support on non-shared strategies, and frame next steps for SHIP implementation. The community engagement meetings will involve Community Advisory Councils, County Health Departments, Schools of Public Health, non-profit partners, CCOs, and OHA partners including AMH and the Transformation Center.
