Coordinators,
Below is information regarding national initiatives for World No Tobacco Day. This email is being shared with you as an FYI.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On May 31, the global tobacco control and prevention community will celebrate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), an annual awareness event that draws worldwide attention to the tobacco epidemic and highlights the need for effective policies to reduce tobacco use.
This year, the World Health Organization and its partners are calling upon countries to raise taxes on tobacco products. This recommendation is among several actions also identified in the 2014 Surgeon General's Report-The Health Consequences of Smoking: 50 Years of Progress-to more quickly and dramatically reduce tobacco use. CDC encourages states and partners to familiarize themselves with these actions as an effective means of further accelerating the national movement to reduce tobacco use.
CDC/OSH has planned communication activities leading up to WNTD. Following is a preview of what's to come. Please be on the lookout for an another forwarded email on May 29 (after 1 PM EST) providing a link to the feature article.
