Dear Partners -
I am pleased to let you know that the annual Transportation and Growth Management (TGM) grant program has released its annual request for proposals, and has asked us to help spread the word. As a reminder, many jurisdictions (cities, counties, tribes) seek these funds when they need to start the process of updating a comprehensive plan, transportation plan, pedestrian plan or other type of community plan. (TGM funds often pay for the consulting teams that typically lead a fairly involved process of scoping issues, reviewing data, conducting public engagement, and drafting the plan.)
Importantly for public health, once again this year, TGM is supporting our statewide efforts to bring health into conversations about land use and transportation planning. They are awarding up to 10 bonus points (out of 100) for innovation, and specifically call out the example of engaging public health! Please see the application materials below.
I recommend that you reach out to your local community planning and development contacts and see if they are planning to submit - and if appropriate, determine how you can play a role to inform their work, so that we can make healthy options in reach for all.
Here is the announcement. Thanks and best of luck! Please contact your liaison if you would like to discuss this further.
We wanted to let you know that the 2016 TGM grant application materials are now available. We emailed them to all who sent in pre-applications and are starting to publicize them more broadly. The application materials are posted on our website: http://www.oregon.gov/LCD/TGM/pages/grants.aspx, along with example applications from previous cycles and other resources.
We would appreciate if you could help us spread the word.
As a reminder, TGM planning grants are awarded on an annual basis. There are two categories of grants: Transportation System Planning, and Integrated Land Use and Transportation Planning. Eligible applicants include cities, counties, councils of government on behalf of a city or county, and tribal governments. Certain special districts are eligible, such as transportation districts, metropolitan planning organizations, ports, mass transit districts, park and recreation districts, and metropolitan service districts. School districts may be eligible as part of a joint application with a local government for an otherwise eligible project. Eligible applicants may join together to propose a project, such as a multi-county TSP or multi-city or city-county corridor plan. Grantees must provide a match of 12% or more of the total project cost, in the form of cash, staff time, monetized volunteer time, and direct project expenses.
Applications will be due June 10th and TGM will announce the grant awards in August, after our August Advisory Committee meeting.
Thanks so much for your help with this!
