Hello everyone,
Do you know someone who has a personal story about how place affects health?
Coates Kokes is working on behalf of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to collect stories from people around Oregon about how the places where we live, work, play and learn affect our health. Place Matters Oregon, an initiative of the Oregon Health Authority, starts conversations about place and health.
In Oregon, our communities don't share the same access to physical health. The ingrained systems that surround us are creating barriers to good health for too many people. The result is an Oregon where someone's address, income or skin color can unlock - or block - their access to good health and a good life.
* This short video explains a little bit more about Place Matters Oregon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpk7dqVxU2Q
The initiative is creating a new video series to provide fresh insights through personal stories of people from across Oregon. Place Matters Oregon hopes these videos will stimulate dialogue on how the systems we have built, and the structural issues of place, affect our health.
* This video captures the essence of the type of video OHA is looking to create: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlX6lQaLdKA
If you know someone who might have a story that would shed some light on one of these issues, would you share this email and encourage them to contact us about sharing their story?
Example stories could include someone's experience with gentrification/displacement, aging challenges, the school environment, the built environment, industry marketing practices, neighborhood initiatives, racism, homophobia, or a number of other topics.
Each video we produce will capture a different topic that demonstrates the place-health connection. And, each story will capture the passion of the person's first-hand experience.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope this would be an opportunity for you, your organization, and any willing storytellers, to increase awareness of a topic about which you care deeply.
Please feel free to share this email with your network; we hope to collect a variety of stories.
In the event that you know someone, have an idea, or simply have questions about this project, please contact Anri Sugitani. She is happy to help.
