Good morning, Tribal TPEP coordinators.

Please see attached for a new CDC infographic on E-cigarettes shaped like USB Flash Drives. You can find this and other e-cigarette resources from the CDC here: https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/basic_information/youth/index.htm<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.cdc.gov_tobacco_basic-5Finformation_youth_index.htm&d=DwMFAg&c=7gilq_oJKU2hnacFUWFTuYqjMQ111TRstgx6WoATdXo&r=hXOTJUAl2nsljAgmELfTyYpyS1eUGJSDiT3O3SAeUfE&m=H1qg0rkG0lcSKWPjb_U9hSc9msRtGniW65DhI44uKuU&s=GAnEx40N4p2qyV2SyGbPnvYSPdBtxi8qriWm2Ggecmw&e=>.

Subject: New resources for vaping background and communications

Good morning, Tribal TPEP coordinators.

There's been a lot of news lately about vaping among youth, and JUUL in particular. We thought you would find the attached resources helpful in building your understanding and awareness about this issue:

  * Infographic from CDC for teachers and parents about vaping devices. I have attached a PDF version and a JPG version for social media.
  * Overview of tobacco industry-sponsored youth prevention programs, also from CDC. This places JUUL-sponsored programs in context: the tobacco industry has a long history of promoting educational programs that are ineffective at best and may actually promote tobacco use among youth.
  * An example letter (English and Spanish) for schools to send to parents and guardians. Thank you to Hood River for sharing this resource.
  * California recently released new ads about teen vaping, several of which include JUUL. Their new tagline - "The Tobacco Industry Has a Kids Menu". You can find the ads here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7kPamWCRFgwKaa1-kKYQOA.
  * A webinar recording of "What's the Hype?: JUUL Electronic Cigarette's Popularity with Youth & Young Adults"<http://www.publichealthlawcenter.org/webinars/archived> will be available by end of day Friday, April 27th, on the Public Health Law Center's website.

As an FYI, HPCDP is in communication with the Oregon Department of Education about their outreach to schools regarding vaping. We will share any additional information we receive from them on their strategy. These resources may be helpful for you to share with any Tribally-operated schools as well.

All questions welcome.

Best regards,
Sarah
