[HealthyTribes] Funding opportunity: Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country

Good morning!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the funding opportunity: Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country (GHWIC).

The purpose of this funding is to reduce rates of death and disability from commercial tobacco use, diabetes, heart disease and stroke, and reduce the prevalence of obesity and other chronic disease risk factors and conditions.

The funding is based on the best available evidence for policy, systems, and environmental changes, and clinical-community linkage strategies, which may be culturally adapted to meet the needs of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

The long-term outcomes of this opportunity are:

  *   Increased purchasing of healthy foods.
  *   Increased physical activity with an emphasis on walking.
  *   Increased breastfeeding.
  *   Reduced prevalence of commercial tobacco use.
  *   Reduced incidence of type 2 diabetes.
  *   Reduced prevalence of high blood pressure.
  *   Reduced prevalence of high blood cholesterol.

The opportunity is open to Federally recognized Native American tribal governments and Native American tribal organizations.
