Greetings Tribal TPEP,
In light of the high demand COVID - 19 response may be placing on many of your programs, HPCPD is extending the Community Policy Leadership Institute (CPLI) Interest Form submission due date. Originally set for tomorrow, Friday, March 20, the new due date will be Friday, April 24. Additionally, Cohort 1, initially planned for May, will be postponed to Fall 2020 (date and location TBD based on interest forms received).
HPCDP is still committed to supporting this important work to engage community and reduce health disparities across Oregon. We encourage you to consider submitting an interest form for your community to help us gauge interest across the state and plan for the time when our day to day work is less unpredictable and we are able to convene in person. Our staff are available to answer questions or discuss CPLI participation, the impact COVID - 19 response has had on planning for this initiative and any other ways we might be able to support ongoing health equity efforts in your community.
Please feel free to contact me or your liaison for more information.
Thank you for the work you do to protect the health of your communities.
Be well,
Jen

Subject: [CtyTobProMgrs] Community Policy Leadership Institutes beginning this Spring
Greetings!
HPCDP is excited to launch Community Policy Leadership Institutes this coming Spring.
Beginning in Summer 2019, HPCDP worked with representatives from 5 Regional Health Equity Coalitions to develop Community Policy Leadership Institutes, a model for centering equity in local, regional and state policy and decision-making processes.
The purpose of the Community Policy Leadership Institutes is to bring together community leaders, local public health authorities and decision makers through a facilitated process to co-lead local policy initiatives primarily focused on reducing and preventing tobacco and alcohol use to address health disparities and achieve better health outcomes.
Institutes are designed to support:
* Strengthened capacity among nontraditional partners and culturally specific grantees to co-create policy alongside government (state, local and tribal)
* Reciprocal policy alignment among diverse partners to address risk factors for chronic disease in alignment with other community and statewide strategies
* Sustainable structure to address health disparities in communities
* Convening and planning for long term change
* Shared power structure for policy change between Regional Health Equity Coalitions, Local Public Health Authorities (LPHAs), Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) partners
* Tribal participation can help provide insight regarding the impact of city, county and state policies on tribes and native community members. However, as sovereign nations, tribes have independent decision-making processes and structures.
* Strengthened community capacity for chronic disease prevention policy work
HPCDP plans to host 2 - 3 cohorts between May 2020 and June 2021.
Attached you will find:
* An informational 1-pager (Community Capacity Building for Policy Change - One Pager)
* Frequently Asked Questions (CPLI FAQs) based on feedback and questions received through February 20, 2020
* A fillable interest form (CPLI Interest Form)
* The purpose of this form is to assist HPCDP coordinate with grantees and partners to plan for each of the 3 2020-2021 Community Policy Leadership Institute cohorts. This is not a competitive application process.
Questions about this opportunity can be directed to me at jennifer.j.chandler at state.or.us<mailto:jennifer.j.chandler at state.or.us> or your HPCDP liaison.
Best,
Jen
