Good afternoon, Tribal TPEP Coordinators -
For November's Smokefree Oregon Facebook calendar, we are elevating Native voices by sharing posts and images created for the Native Quit Line promotion earlier this year. We have drafted a post featuring each federally recognized tribe, which are copied below. We also have posts for NARA and NAYA.
Please let me know by Friday, November 6 if you have any questions, concerns, or suggested changes for the posts. Native Quit Line videos and images received positive feedback and engagement on social media last spring, and we're looking forward to sharing them again to honor Native American Heritage Month.
When these posts go up, please share with your networks! You can also use TPEP funds to create and boost your own posts - let me know if you'd like more information on how to do that. There are more Native Quit Line promotional materials in the files you should have received from Buffalo Nickel and the Metropolitan Group - also let me know if you're having any issues accessing those files.
Have a wonderful weekend, and take good care.
Best regards.

John Shaefer, of the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Suislaw Indians, shares how his Tribe honors traditional tobacco and culture as prevention. Years ago, Tribal members used commercial tobacco like cigarettes for ceremonial use. "Now that we've brought the traditional plant back, they exclusively use the material we grow. We provide it to the community for those ceremonies." #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth. [TAG CTCLUSI, NPAIHB]

T.J. Foltz, a member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, speaks about the honor of quitting commercial tobacco. "Smoking drastically reduces your chances of living a long, helpful life. And by doing that you're taking away from yourself and taking away from family members who have the opportunity to learn something from you if you choose not to smoke."
Visit www.nativequitline.com, reach out to a tribal health center, or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW and press 7 to learn more. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth

We honor Oregon's first people and elevate Native voices by sharing stories of inspiration and quitting commercial tobacco. "I was in the emergency room twice and after the second time I said, 'It's time to quit smoking.' So, I did. I feel better, I've saved money, and my health is much better than it was before."
