Good afternoon Tribal TPEP,

We have a lot to share with you in the digest this week, but first a quick announcement: As many of you are aware, Jordana Leeb took a full-time job rotation in the COVID and Recovery Response Unit that began on February 16th - congrats to Jordana!! The posts aired in November (Native American Heritage Month) to support prevention and cessation of commercial tobacco among American Indians and Alaskan Natives by highlighting cultural traditions and directing community members to the Native Quit Line.   *   Tobacco Prevention Policy Calls Ongoing. Please notify your Community Program Liaison or Derek Smith (Derek.smith at state.or.us<mailto:Derek.smith at state.or.us>) if you would like to be added to the Tobacco Prevention Policy calls.  A longer 60-minute call occurs the 4th Tuesday of the month 11:00-12.  A short 30-minute call occurs the 2nd Tuesday of the month 11:00-11:30. If interested, we will forward the meeting invitation to you!


  *   Rural and Frontier community technical assistance. Counter Tools and OHA are hoping to host a convening specifically for rural and/or frontier communities. Tell us about what would be helpful to you in advancing your commercial tobacco prevention and control goals in the coming months - all feedback is welcome!   *   Upcoming Webinar: HPCDP Data Resources for Partners. The Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention (HPCDP) section of the Public Health Division accesses diverse data from many sources to help inform county and state partners.   *   A new report, titled "Stopping Menthol, Saving Lives<https://www.tobaccofreekids.org/what-we-do/industry-watch/menthol-report>" was released this week by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. The Association of Black Cardiologists; the African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council; Black Women's Health Imperative; the Center for Black Health & Equity; the NAACP; the National Black Nurses Association; the National Medical Association; the National Caucus and Center on Black Aging, Inc.; Save a Girl, Save a World; and The Links, Incorporated. The report details why menthol cigarettes have had such devastating impacts on the health of Black Americans, including targeted industry campaigns.


  *   Costco retail pharmacies are beginning to prescribe FDA-approved medications for quitting tobacco. Costco is the first chain pharmacy to implement protocols for their pharmacists to prescribe FDA-approved cessation medications to walk-in customers. (See locations listed in the attachment.) OSU University College of Pharmacy expects more pharmacies to implement protocols this spring and will provide us with updates and specific locations.   *   New Webinar Series from ChangeLab Solutions: Uprooting the Drivers of Health Inequity. This six-part virtual engagement series will explore how organizations and advocates are addressing inequity in their efforts to improve health outcomes. the series will investigate what the drivers of health inequity are and how different sectors - including community-based organizations, government, and funders - are addressing them and advancing structural solutions. Led by Iliana Siarmalis-White, a Senior Specialist in Adolescent Health and Youth Engagement, Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), with participation from youth leaders, this webinar provides creative ways to engage youth in tobacco control.
