Good morning Tribal TPEP,
June is coming! I hope everyone is taking care of their heart, mind and body during these difficult times. Below are a list of resources and updates:
SHOUT OUT: A huge shout out to Gwyn Ashcom in Washington County for all of her to work to help Washington County properties become tobacco-free! Previously, there was a smoke-free policy on the books, but the policy was recently strengthened to cover tobacco and not just smoke. Congratulations, Gwyn! The policy can be found at: https://www.co.washington.or.us/CAO/upload/701-Tobacco-Free-Policy.pdf
Oregon LGBTQ+ Older Adult Survey: We are excited to announce the first-ever statewide project in Oregon to assess the needs of LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit adults 55 and older! The survey will be released on May 18, 2021.The project is funded by the Oregon Department of Human Services Office of Aging and People with Disabilities (APD), and the information gathered will be used for planning, program development and community education and advocacy to address the service, aging and health needs that support the strengths of LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit older adults in Oregon. Five randomly selected survey participants who enter a drawing will be awarded $100 Gift Certificates. Attached are outreach materials, including a flyer, postcard and social media posts. We hope you will help us spread the word. For more information, contact us at OregonSurvey at uw.edu<mailto:OregonSurvey at uw.edu> or 1-888-643-4498.
We know that many of you are still working on or leading the COVID response in your community. We've also heard that there's an opportunity to provide quit tobacco materials and messaging at many of the COVID-19 vaccination and testing sites as people think about their health - especially their lung health! - in a new way. We've developed a suite of materials for you to use in your communities, everything from digital display signs for waiting area TVs to palm cards that people can take home. We have funding for some printing, and this is also a great way to spend down end-of-year funding. Please click here to show which materials and languages you are interested in and provide a rough estimate for how many you would like. We will follow up to confirm your order and when you can expect to receive them. A file with all the materials is attached. Contact Sarah Wylie at sarah.a.wylie at state.or.us<mailto:sarah.a.wylie at state.or.us> if you have any questions. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CovidCessationMaterials
This repository is housed on the American College of Preventive Medicine's website. Nicotine exposure during adolescence can harm the developing brain and can lead to a lifetime of nicotine addiction and tobacco use. Nicotine exposure can also prime the adolescent brain for addiction to other drugs. Helping youth quit using tobacco products is critical for protecting their health now and in the future. Access resources on the American College of Preventive Medicine's website.
