[HealthyTribes] Tobacco Retail License PE 76 Opt in Reminder

Good afternoon Local PH Administrators and Local PH Officers,

This message is being sent to LPH Officers as a courtesy and no action is needed from health officers.

This is a reminder for Local Public Health Authorities interested in opting into enforcing Oregon's Tobacco Retail License locally. Program Element 76, approved by CLHO in September 2022, allows interested Local Public Health Authorities to inspect tobacco retailers in their communities for compliance with Oregon's tobacco retail sales laws. This is an optional Program Element, with work beginning July 1, 2023. A copy of the program element and appendices are attached, as approved by CLHO.

If your Local Public Health Authority is interested in opting in beginning July 1, 2023, the Local Public Health Administrator must notify the Oregon Tobacco Retail License program by January 31, 2023 to allow for adequate start up time.

Please find attached an updated one pager and a Frequently Asked Questions Document about Program Element 76. The Oregon Tobacco Retail License Program also held an optional information session for interested Local Public Health Authorities in November. The information session covers Program Element requirements, the role of OHA and Local Public Health Authorities, local staffing suggestions, available training and technical assistance from OHA, as well as questions and answers.
