End of year holiday celebrations will soon be in full swing and one of
the ways Oregonians can look back with pride on 2008 is to recognize
outstanding efforts carried out by individuals, businesses, and
organizations on behalf of Oregon*s heritage.
With only a month away from the deadline to submit nominations for the
2009 Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards, Heritage Commission coordinator
Kyle Jansson is encouraging citizens throughout the state to look around
their communities and identify examples of dedicated work having taken
place that highlight aspects of Oregon*s heritage.
*Important heritage work-which can be in progress for years-goes
unnoticed by the community-at-large because those individuals or
organizations spearheading the work are so busy with a given heritage
project.,* said Jansson. *The annual Heritage Excellence Awards
program provides the opportunity to say *Congratulations and thank you
for your service.* to those folks who deserve recognition.*
Award nominations should be postmarked no later than Jan. 20. A
complete nomination package, which includes an application and other
supporting material, is available at www.oregonheritage.org. Click on
*2009 Heritage Awards* under the heading News and Events.
To request mailing a nomination package, contact David Bogan by calling
503-986-0671, or email Heritage.Programs at state.or.us.
Nominations should identify exceptional and meritorious work. Special
consideration is given to the development of new ideas, approaches and
innovations in heritage-related activities. The Oregon Heritage
Excellence Awards are also intended to honor those who have made the
most from available resources and skills.
The 2009 Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards will be presented at the
Northwest History and Heritage Extravaganza on April 17 in Portland by
the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department*s Heritage Programs
division, which includes the Oregon Heritage Commission and the State
Historic Preservation Office.
