OREGON HERITAGE GRANT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

During the past decade, dozens of Oregon organizations and governments
have received Oregon Heritage Grants that enabled them to conserve or
develop significant Oregon heritage resources. 

The grants support projects conducted by non-profit organizations,
federally recognized tribal governments and local governments which
conserve, develop or interpret Oregon's heritage. The grants are awarded
by the Oregon Heritage Commission.

OREGON 150 PRODUCING RADIO SHOWS

Oregon 150, working with the Small Plate Radio Network, has produced
more than a dozen radio shows about Oregon topics. The most recent was a
conversation with Oregon Poet Laureate Lawson Fusao Inada during which
he read poems he wrote for the Tillamook County Fair, about being
“Live in Oregon”, about the Oregon 150 experience and how poetry
is an accessible art form.

The next program is scheduled for 1 p.m. Aug. 27 and can be listened to
on the Internet.

TRUST BEGINS PLANNING OCTOBER DAY OF CULTURE

The Oregon Cultural Trust has begun planning an Oregon Day of Culture
that will be an occasion to celebrate, participate in and donate to
Oregon culture statewide. The event kicks off the fall fundraising
season, not just for the Trust but for all of Oregon’s cultural
nonprofits and Trust coalitions.

Day of Culture 2009 will be a grassroots effort, according to Trust
staff.  The Trust’s role will be to promote work that you are already
doing.   There will be a Day of Culture page on its website, with a
searchable database of events taking place from Oct. 1 - 8.  That
database will be populated with information provided by you that will
include link-through to your own Day of Culture, ticket buying and
donation pages.  There will be a Day of Culture toolkit with logos;
poster, sticker and ad templates; sample press releases and newsletter
articles so you can promote your Day of Culture.

The Trust will buy advertising and radio underwriting to promote Day of
Culture statewide.  In cities that allow it, the Trust will hang Day of
Culture banners.  It actively seek cross-promotional opportunities;
please send the Trust your ideas and suggestions.

MUSEUM SEEKS ASSOCIATE REGISTRAR

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon wants to
hire an associate registrar for loans and exhibitions who will be
responsible for managing all aspects of museum’s loan and exhibition
program.  The position requires minimum 3 years museum registration
experience working with collections; proficient collections database
experience; experience with implementing professional standards and
procedures involving art loans and exhibitions; and an MA in Art
History, Arts and Administration, or related field.  Review of
applications will begin Sept. 2. Further information regarding this

AMERICAN HERITAGE PRESERVATION GRANT DEADLINE NEARS

The Institute for Museum and Library Services will host an information
phone call Aug. 25 for potential applicants of American Heritage
Preservation Grants. The grants will raise awareness and fund
preservation of treasures held in small museums, libraries and archives.


Grants will help to preserve specific items, including works of art,
artifacts and historical documents that are in need of conservation.
Applicants will build on completed conservation assessments of their
collections to ensure that the grants are used in accordance with best
practices in the field, and underscore the importance of assessment
planning.
