BENTON COUNTY’S STORAGE SOLUTION FEATURED ON EXCHANGE
Thrilled with the prospect of new compact shelving for the Benton
County Historical Society’s (BCHS) Johnson Collection Center (the
outcome of a very successful fund-raising campaign) museum staff quickly
realized that the speedier-than-anticipated installation of shelving
meant an inadequate supply budget for archival materials needed for
re-housing artifacts. How did they solve this dilemma? Join Mary
Gallagher for the whole story on Heritage Exchange (

WINDOW RESTORATION REPAIR, WEATHERIZATION STANDARDS AVAILABLE
The national Window Preservation Standards Collaborative (WPSC)
recently announced a new publication that establishes best practices for
the preservation, repair, restoration and weatherization of old and
historic wooden windows. Over 150 preservation and energy efficiency
professionals collaborated over a two year period to produce this book
called the "Window Preservation Standards".
Anyone involved with saving historic buildings and windows, including
architects, State historic preservation offices, window specialists and
trades people, contractors, building owners, businesses, preservation
specifiers, educators, preservation commissions and homeowners will be
interested in this book. “Window Preservation Standards” includes a
catalog of methods that are currently in use on projects all around the
country. Topics include glazing, painting, wood repairs, energy updates,
storm windows and maintenance. Each treatment standard has a brief
description with appropriate use, a step-by-step procedure shows what is
done, and materials are listed. A special section describes how to judge
the quality of the completed work with easy observations and simple
tests to assure the best quality work.
