A LESSON IN ORAL HISTORY ON EXCHANGE
 
Working with tribal elders and interviewing them for various projects

REGISTRATION OPENS FOR INTERPRETATION COURSE AT OSU
 
Is your organization preparing to share information about historical
and cultural resources?
Learn ways to communicate effectively with your visitors at Oregon
State University (OSU) this fall. 
 
Offered through the OSU Extended Campus, Environmental Interpretation
(FOR 493/593) (

) reveals the effectiveness of interpretation as a communication
strategy. Students will learn about communication techniques applicable
to a variety of disciplines - including natural, historical, and
cultural resource management - and useful in engaging not only visitors
to  parks, museums, aquariums, and historic sites, but also users of
digital media.

“CLOUD GIRLS” FEATURED ON GRANT’S GETTAWAYS
 
Not too many decades ago, high adventure in the outdoors meant service,
duty and responsibility to protect Oregon's forests from catastrophic
fire. They were a special breed of Oregon Department of Forestry
personnel, because women like Eleanor Mitchell answered a call that few
men dared in the late 1940s. Listen to Eleanor’s story and learn about
the Tillamook State Forest where women once 'manned' fire lookout towers
and earned the nickname, "The Cloud Girls" on Grant’s Getaways (

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SEEKS EDUCATION SPECIALIST 
 
An Education Specialist 2 position is available within the Office of
Education Equity at the Oregon Department of Education in Salem. The
successful candidate will assist school districts in developing
educational, physical, and cultural activities that pertain to students’
native language, culture, and history. The Education specialist will
also aid teachers, administrators, and other staff with training that
will increase their competency and understanding of the unique cultural
attributes of the communities they serve including the nine federally
recognized Tribes of Oregon. The deadline to apply for this position is
