HERITAGE COMMISSION TO MEET IN PENDLETON, JULY 22

The Oregon Heritage Commission will meet at 9 a.m., July 22 at the
Tamastslikt Cultural Institute, 47106 Wildhorse Blvd., Pendleton. 

The Heritage Commission is comprised of nine people representing
Oregon’s heritage and geographical diversity, appointed by the
Governor. There are nine advisory representatives from state agencies
and statewide organizations. The mission of the Oregon Heritage
Commission is to secure, sustain, and enhance Oregon's heritage by
ensuring coordination of heritage initiatives by public and private
organizations; advocacy on its behalf; education of the public about its
extent and value; and promotion and celebration of its diversity.

The meetings are accessible to people with disabilities. Arrange for

“SUCCESSFUL GRANT!” WORKSHOP AND ONLINE APPLICATION WEBINARS APPROACH

The “Successful Grant!” workshop will take place at 1 p.m., July 29 in
Room 124A of the North Mall Office Building, 725 Summer St. NE, Salem. 
This workshop will cover steps toward creating successful grant
projects, including project planning, grant writing and project
management.

Two Online Grant Application webinars will take place at 3 p.m. July 29
and 1 p.m. Aug. 22. The webinar will inform potential grant applicants
about the new online grant application system for Preserving Oregon,
Historic Cemeteries, Oregon Museum and Oregon Heritage grants.

HERITAGE BULLETIN PROVIDES GRANT ADMINISTRATION TIPS

Successful grant administration depends on doing a number of things

MONTEREY PINE AT SHORE ACRES INDUCTED INTO HERITAGE TREE PROGRAM

Oregon Heritage Tree committee members, OPRD staff, and others
assembled recently (

) at Shore Acres State Park, south of Coos Bay, to induct the largest
Monterey Pine in the U.S. into the Oregon Heritage Tree Program.
Probably planted around 1910, the tree dates to the historic Louis J.
Simpson estate. It stands 95 feet tall with a 208-inch trunk
circumference and a 74-foot crown spread. It shares co-champion honors
with a Monterey Pine in Carmel, California, which has a smaller trunk,

APPLICATIONS FOR OREGON HISTORIC TRAILS FUND DUE SEPT. 1

Funds to develop interpretive, educational, and economic projects to
preserve and protect the cultural and natural resources of Oregon's
historic trails are available from the Oregon Historic Trails Fund.
Applications are due Sept. 1. Visit

OREGON NEWSPAPER PROJECT ADDS MORE CONTENT

The Historic Oregon Newspapers website now features an additional
92,000 pages that represent several new geographic areas. Website
visitors can now view content from St. Helens / Houlton, Toledo,
Ashland, Enterprise/Joseph, and Grants Pass, plus additional subject
matter from Pendleton and Salem, as well as the Portland Oregon Daily
Journal from 1904-1907.  The Oregon Digital Newspaper Project (
http://odnp.wordpress.com/ ) blog contains links to the most recent
additions.  An updated site map ( http://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/ ) and
essays for the new titles (
http://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/history/essays_or/ ) are also available
online. 

CROW’S SHADOW INSTITUTE OF ARTS, PENDLETON, SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA), of Pendleton, is
seeking an executive director who can bring energy, experience and
intellect to the task of moving CSIA into its next decade of growth. The
successful candidate will have experience with fine-art printmaking and
its marketing; knowledge of the contemporary art world; skills in grant
writing and building a donor base; and the ability to imagine future
programming. CSIA prefers applicants with experience working in
cross-cultural settings, knowledge and interest in contemporary
indigenous art, knowledge of tribal culture, and capital campaign
experience. This position is responsible for the management of CSIA in
accordance with the operating policies as approved by the Board of
Directors.  

Qualifications include an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, three years
increasingly responsible non-profit work experience, excellent speaking,
interpersonal and written communication skills, computer skills with
proficiency in Microsoft applications and QuickBooks, and a demonstrated
ability to work effectively as part of a team. This position closes Aug.
