MCMINNVILLE LOCATION FOR 2014 MAIN STREET CONFERENCE, OCT. 1 – 3

The 2014 Oregon Main Street Conference will take place in McMinnville, Oct. 1 – 3. Attendees will return home with proven ideas and strategies for preservation-based revitalization that is relevant to rural, mid-sized, and urban communities.

Staff and volunteers of organizations focusing on downtown historic preservation and economic development, downtown business and property owners, government leaders, chamber of commerce professionals and volunteers, and others with an interest in the future of downtown will benefit from attending this conference. Learn about the “big picture” of downtown revitalization by discovering fresh ideas and numerous ways to turn your historic downtown or neighborhood commercial district into a bustling center of activity. Sessions cover a variety of topics for both beginners and those with experience. Activities include walking tours, lectures, and networking time.

STIPENDS AVAILABLE FOR OMA CONFERENCE, PORTLAND, OCT. 26 – 28

The Oregon Museums Association (OMA) is offering two stipends for its upcoming conference in Portland, Oct. 26 – 28. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.

One stipend will go to a student enrolled in a museum studies, history, public history, or other related program. The other will go to a first time attendee who works or volunteers in the museum profession. Applicants must be OMA members. Successful applicants will write an article about their conference experience for publication in the OMA “Dispatch”.

To apply, submit a letter that includes your institution / academic program (student) or organization / position (first time attendee), stipend requested, and an explanation about how attending will benefit your professional development. HIGH DESERT MUSEUM SEEKS MUSEUM EDUCATION

The High Desert Museum is seeking a museum educator who will be responsible for the design, scheduling and implementation of a variety of Education programs for a wide range of ages, including both formal and informal education programs. The majority of programming will be for preschool and elementary-aged children. The Museum Educator will teach the cultural and natural history of the High Desert, as well as a variety of other science topics. Well-qualified candidates must be energetic, flexible, resourceful, and with an entrepreneurial attitude to create and present exciting programs for a broad audience with an emphasis on early childhood.

Successful candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in education, natural science or museum studies and two years’ experience in an educational institution and / or instructional setting, as well as experience with administrative duties.
