[Heritage] Setting Collections Priorities is Step Five in Completing Your Disaster Response Plan

This week, the work on your Pocket Response Plan (PReP<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/OHC/docs/OC2C%20Prep%20Plan.doc>) involves setting Collection Priorities. What items should the response team address immediately? Perhaps it is an entire collection, or just a few items. Where are the items located? Review your entire collection to set first and second priority items, followed by lower priorities, if necessary.

As an added bonus, by working on your PReP this week you will be participating in the MayDay initiative<https://thehep.wordpress.com/2015/04/07/prepare-for-mayday-2015-join-the-movement/>. This initiative encourages libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and preservation organizations to set aside May 1 as a time for examining and increasing their preparedness for emergencies.

You have one more week of activities to go! Oregon Heritage is helping you during this six-week period to create a Pocket Response Plan that qualifies your organization for an incentive payment from the Connecting to Collections Project.

A few minutes of effort today to begin creating PReP will begin to qualify your organization for an incentive payment from the Connecting to Collections Project. Oregon Heritage will be right there working with you along the way.

Here is how it works. Every week for six weeks, Oregon Heritage News sends you a section or two of the PREP to complete. Each segment takes just a few minutes to fill in with information you already have in your museum, library or archive.

At the end of six weeks, you will have finished a PReP and that qualifies you for a financial incentive from the Oregon Connecting to Collections project, funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
