CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN AN INTERACTIVE SESSION AT THE HERITAGE CONFERENCE!
Planning to attend the Oregon Heritage Conference in April? Need some expert advice on an organizational management challenge you're facing? Be part of an interactive session! Based on previous feedback, we have assembled a panel of organizational management experts including a nonprofit consultant, a seasoned executive director, a volunteer manager, and an attorney from the Department of Justice. Now we're looking for volunteers to present their issue to the panel.
If you're interested in participating on April 12, please send a short email with context about your organizational management issue to beth.dehn at oregon.gov<mailto:beth.dehn at oregon.gov>. We will select several people to present to the panelists, who will give their feedback, including tips and suggestions, on what to do.
Don't forget to register<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/OHC/Pages/Conference.aspx> for the conference! Visit here<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/OHC/Pages/Conference.aspx> to see a preliminary schedule and session descriptions.

FEEDBACK SOUGHT ON DRAFT 2 SOCIAL SCIENCES ACADEMIC CONTENT STANDARDS REVISIONS
ORS 329.045 requires the State Board of Education (SBE) to regularly and periodically review and revise the academic content standards. The Oregon Department of Education seeks feedback on Draft 2 Social Sciences Academic Content Standards revisions. You will find the surveys at http://www.oregon.gov/ode/educator-resources/standards/socialsciences/Pages/2017-Draft-Standards.aspx. Using the surveys, you have the opportunity to share feedback to the Draft 2 standards. You also have the opportunity to recommend specific changes to the standards statements. Multiple surveys are offered so you can review the standards by grade level or by content area. You are welcome to complete one or all of the surveys. Survey data will be collected and incorporated into a final draft to be recommended to the State Board of Education.
The Draft 2 surveys will be open until close of business on Monday, March 19, 2018.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services today announced 29 finalists for the 2018 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. In March and April, IMLS will celebrate the excellent community work of these institutions through its #ShareYourStory social media campaign. Abstract: Collaborations often have the best outcomes because conversations among those with diverse experiences, varied institutional affiliations, and cross-discipline training bring breadth and depth of perspective. The Stories of Southern Oregon project was a good example of how libraries, museums, and academics can work together to surface important historical content, build community, and strengthen relationships. Thanks to a 2017 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities' Common Heritage program, Southern Oregon University faculty partnered with the Eagle Point and Ruch branches of the Jackson County Library District and local museums to collect stories and images of heritage work-life like logging, mining, farming, and ranching. Memories of a different time are very much alive in the rural towns of Jackson and Josephine counties, and public libraries and museums are central to the collective heritage of our small communities. This article describes the Stories of Southern Oregon project and how public libraries in Ruch and Eagle Point engaged their communities to bring history to life, and make a real difference to those they serve every day.
