Change and disruption have become the norms in recent years due to a variety of factors impacting our world, our nation, and our communities. Change impacts everyone and yet everyone deals with change differently. Rather than constantly reacting to change, there are strategies to anticipate and prepare for change both personally and organizationally. Utilizing existing and emerging change management principles and tools, this interactive workshop will empower and equip participants with a toolkit to develop their own customized approach to change that can be directly applied to the unique needs of their organization moving forward.
Presenter:
The workshops will be presented by Joseph Thouvenel, a seasoned change management professional who has applied his expertise in both higher education and healthcare settings. An experienced and collaborative leader, Joe loves to empower and equip others to realize their potential and achieve success especially during times of transition and disruption. In his current role, Joe works with leaders and teams throughout Providence Health and Services to build capacity for change. Through collaboration, coaching, and meeting facilitation, Joe strives to widen the circle of those who influence strategic change to include people with diverse perspectives and from all levels of an organization. Additionally, Joe has worked and partnered with a number of non-profit organizations in the areas of change readiness, strategy, and program implementation. He is also a Gallup-certified Strengths Coach and is a trained facilitator for Leading Reflective Conversations through Oregon Humanities.

OMA September 19 virtual meet up for educators
Monday, September 19, 2022, 3:30 - 4:30 pm PDT
The pandemic has changed so much about museum education. As tours and in-person programming were unavailable, we had to reinvent the ways in which we connected and worked with our audiences. Now that we're emerging to a place where in-person learning can take place again, we're still left grappling with how to move forward in a way that reflects all that we've learned.
During this virtual meet up, museum educators will have an opportunity to chat in small groups about welcoming back tour groups, integrating digital learning, recruiting and managing docents, and/or professional development outreach and facilitation. This meet up is free to attend, but you must register to receive login details.
Hosted by Amanda Coven, OMA Membership Chair and Director of Education at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education.

OHS Educator Resource Guide for Hispanic Heritage Month
*Taken from Oregon Historical Society September E-Digest, Vol. 3
Today marks the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month, and education staff have created a guide for educators<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ft.e2ma.net%2Fclick%2Fn4kjmi%2Fjtxycc%2Ffujx5rb&data=05%7C01%7CHeritage.Info%40oprd.oregon.gov%7C67bc086a53164a484d8b08da9791dff8%7Caa3f6932fa7c47b4a0cea598cad161cf%7C0%7C0%7C637988950171217002%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Qzn9k6PJeaDgj3irfQj2G7lqgXGTlzOPnFN9J0XecTo%3D&reserved=0> that features OHS collections and links to digital history resources to highlight the contributions and histories of people of Latin American heritage in Oregon.
This now annual observation began as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson in 1968 and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period from September 15 to October 15. Many Latin American countries celebrate their independence in September, such as Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua who celebrate on September 15. Additionally, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence on September 16 and September 18 respectively.
The official name of the observation is called Hispanic Heritage Month, but many individual and communities with heritage and origins in Latin America (composed of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the islands of the Caribbean where a romance language is spoken) use other terms to self-identify, including Latino, Latina, Latinx, and Latine. In describing the highlighted resources, we employ the terms utilized by their creators (authors, speakers, or community partners).
The Hispanic Heritage Month guide is part of a larger resource guide meant to provide OHS resources and primary sources that can support teaching about monthly observations in school around culture, heritage, and identity. To access these monthly resource guides, be sure to sign up for our monthly Educator Newsletter here<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ft.e2ma.net%2Fclick%2Fn4kjmi%2Fjtxycc%2Fvmkx5rb&data=05%7C01%7CHeritage.Info%40oprd.oregon.gov%7C67bc086a53164a484d8b08da9791dff8%7Caa3f6932fa7c47b4a0cea598cad161cf%7C0%7C0%7C637988950171373763%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=1hpkHzRmi8jnpBBtauGqAYdI%2F4vCleZS2Cjb6g812QU%3D&reserved=0>.
