This Place Matters Community Challenge
Last summer, the National Trust for Historic Preservation launched the
first-ever This Place Matters Community Challenge – with over 50,000
people participating and one very special historic place bringing home
$25,000.
This year, the Community Challenge is getting bigger – and better.
Instead of one cash prize, awards will be given out to the top three
vote getters: first prize will get $25,000; second prize will get
$10,000; and third prize will get $5,000 to help with anything from
renovations to operating costs.
Applications are being accepted starting on Monday, May 2nd at 8am
Eastern – and will be open for two full weeks. This Place Matters
Community Challenge is only accepting 100 participants this year and
are looking for great, diverse stories that show the broad spectrum of
places that matter in all of our communities.
So spread the word! There is a great opportunity to gain local and
national exposure for your project, experiment with social media and new
ways of rallying support around your cause, and celebrate people saving
places in your own community – as well as compete for a cash award.
In order to participate, your organization must be a 501c3 or
non-taxable government entity and submit two high-resolution photos of
your place-that-matters project featuring a This Place Matters sign.
That sign can be downloaded here (
http://www.preservationnation.org/take-action/this-place-matters/TPM-NTHP-LOGO.pdf
).
The project that your organization chooses to feature on your Challenge
Place Page doesn’t have to be endangered or in need of repair, it just
needs to be a place that people in the community can really get behind
in order to get out the vote and spread the word that preservation
matters.
The application will be available on the This Place Matters section of
PreservationNation (www.preservationnation.org/thisplacematters)
starting on Monday, May 2nd and will close on Friday, May 13th at 5pm
Eastern. Applicants will be notified of their application status on May
17th and voting will take place between June 1st and June 30th.
