[Libs-Or] FY 2025 Oregon Public Library Statistics - updates

Hello Oregon public library community,

This is a quick note of thanks to everyone who helped contribute data to the FY 2025 Oregon Public Library Statistical Report this year! I have a few updates and reminders:

The 2025 data has now been published as:
     *
A (massive) Excel file on the State Library of Oregon's website<https://www.oregon.gov/library/libraries/Pages/Statistics.aspx>. You can also find links to everything listed below on this page.

Part of an update to the Oregon Public Library Statistics dataset<https://data.oregon.gov/dataset/Oregon-Public-Library-Statistics/8zw7-zgjw> on our state's Open Data Portal

I have also just finished submitting this same data to the Institute of Museum and Library Service's annual Public Library Survey<https://www.imls.gov/research-evaluation/surveys/public-libraries-survey-pls>. Their publishing cycle takes a big longer than ours (50 states, the District of Columbia, and multiple US territories all participate each year), but you can find national public library data as recent as FY 2023 on their website right now.

I've created a new version of the Oregon Public Library Snapshot<https://app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrIjoiMDA3OGFkNDUtZGIyYy00MDM0LWIwZDUtYjYwMTBiYzFiMTBmIiwidCI6ImFhM2Y2OTMyLWZhN2MtNDdiNC1hMGNlLWE1OThjYWQxNjFjZiJ9> tool, which includes some additional data points we could not fit into the earlier version. This should be easier for us to maintain going forward.

If you have images of your library and/or any branch or bookmobile that you'd like us to add to the new Snapshots tool, please email them to me!

I've also updated the Oregon Public Library Trends<https://app.powerbigov.us/view?r=eyJrIjoiYWZmNGMwNzgtNTI3ZC00NzhjLWI1YjUtZWE4M2ViZjA5MjNlIiwidCI6ImFhM2Y2OTMyLWZhN2MtNDdiNC1hMGNlLWE1OThjYWQxNjFjZiJ9> tool with the FY 2025 data. This tool goes into a bit more depth at the individual library level and shows data trends as far back as FY 2010 (where applicable).

A huge thanks to our Stats Advisory Group for their feedback on all things data-related, and thanks especially to Regina Mannino, Data Analytics Coordinator for Jackson County Library Services, who spotted an issue with the totals in the Programs section of the Oregon Public Library Trends tool. If you have looked at that page in the past few weeks and thought your total programs and attendance numbers for 2025 looked lower than expected — it was my fault! Please take another look when you can.

And lastly, a big shout-out to my colleagues in the Library Support & Development Services division of the State Library — especially Jen Maurer, School Library Consultant, who had some very keen suggestions for me on draft of the new Oregon Public Library Snapshot tool. Not to brag, but I am incredibly privileged to work with the amazing folks at the State Library. 🙂
