I vote Twin Cities, too.
Pool winners get to meet in Hawaii, though?

Hi Maura –
We just implemented a new web site widget (WeGlot) which translated it as “Libros parlantes” – you can view all the language at https://www.dclibrary.org/using-the-library/dc-talking-book-and-braille-program-nls in Spanish by selecting that language from the “translate” drop-down menu. We’re in the process of working with WeGlot and DC constituent services offices to correct some of the translations, but I haven’t spoken to them about this one yet to see if it’s correct for Spanish-speakers in the District.
My vote is the Twin Cities… but I also have family in Cleveland I wouldn’t mind visiting!

Hi Maura--
Maryland's Library for the Blind and Print Disabled has an application in Spanish, I have attached it here.
And my Midwest vote would be Chicago but since ALA was just there I'm going to vote for Ohio, preferably Cleveland but I would accept Cincinnati!
Best,
Mary

Hello,
Does anyone have their state’s Talking Books and Braille information in Spanish? I’ve nosed around a bit online and haven’t turned anything up.
Short of that, how about a translation for ‘Talking Books’? We’ve got a draft that says ‘El Centro de Audio Libros y Braille’. I think it should be Audiolibros – one word – but would love some guidance if anyone has already translated it. I don’t love this, it’s a mouthful, but it is in English as well.
California calls them ‘libros parlantes’, the Spanish National Library accepts the term ‘audiolibros’, for ‘libros grabados’, and specifies that it’s only recordings that reproduce the text of a book. The Mexican National library seems to remain mute. The Library of Congress uses ‘audiobooks’, and then refines the term ‘Talking book’, saying it’s only used for ‘spoken texts recorded specifically for the blind or people with visual disabilities’. Most commercial organizations like publishers, Amazon, or Audible use the term ‘audiolibros’.
Thoughts?
PS – As I was writing this a missive arrives from IMLS saying they’re trying to set up a meeting in 9/24 in the Midwest. I think we should start a pool for the location. Any takers?
Best,
Maura
