I’m actually doing a presentation that covers this tomorrow. Here are my suggestions:
Start with a wish list. Grants are all about filling needs; yours and the funders.
Look at what others are doing: IMLS spotlights, state libraries that are big players or similar to your state.
Follow online forums like PEAK Connect, WinningLibraryGrants (Twitter), Library Grants (Blogspot), Library of Congress, foundations <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2YxlOcb6rs> (our webinar intro).
Also, consider asking local service and business clubs like Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Lions Club, AAUW, grocers, craft store, any group that can help promote and perhaps fill a need that your other funding can’t support (popsicles for summer reading kids).

Quick question:  what tools or resources do you use to research grants (private, federal, etc.) that might be applicable to your public libraries?  Thanks for any assistance.
