The Oregon Department of Justice, Crime Victims' Services Division (CVSD) and its Advisory Committee and VAWA Implementation Plan Subcommittee are conducting a brief survey to guide the process that ensures that VAWA monies are used to address the highest priority policy and service gaps for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Oregon. The new Statewide STOP VAWA Implementation Plan for FY 2017 - 2019 must demonstrate how the state enhances coordination and integration of state, local, and tribal law enforcement, prosecution, courts, and victim services response to cases involving violence against victims.
Your survey responses will inform the VAWA Implementation Planning Subcommittee members (and interested stakeholders) as the statewide plan is developed. Representatives from underserved populations, population specific organizations, the 9 Federally-recognized Tribes, and interested stakeholders are strongly encouraged to participate in the planning process through November 2016. The subcommittee will meet at CVSD on August 26, 2016 from 9 am - 1:30 pm to begin the development of the new Implementation Plan for Oregon. A separate listserv notification (and posting to the VAWA website) will contain the GoToMeeting link and call in number for those interested in participating in the IP Planning process.
Please circulate this email and survey widely.
Completing the Survey: You can access the survey at:
https://portlandstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b14AvGYE0CiVOp7. It should take you approximately 15 minutes to complete the 12 multiple choice questions in the survey.
Deadline: We will release this survey only once for a two week period to ensure we have reached a broad range of community partners. We would like to have your responses by Friday, 5PM on June 17, 2016.
Questions: If you have any questions about this survey or wish to discuss it (or the upcoming IP Planning meeting) further, please contact Diana Fleming, STOP VAWA Grant Monitor, ODOJ/CVSD, 503.378.6260, or diana.L.fleming at doj.state.or.us<mailto:diana.L.fleming at doj.state.or.us> or Alisha Goodwin, VAWA Grant Specialist, ODOJ/CVSD, 503.378.6270 or alisha.goodwin at doj.state.or.us<mailto:alisha.goodwin at doj.state.or.us>

American women will be raped in their lifetime, and three-fourths have experienced some type of sexual assault in
their lives. We can't wait for the government to act - we must broaden the community response and open up the conversation
in our homes and community centers.

Making the Case for Coercive Control
Wednesday, June 22, 2016 / 2:00-3:30 pm Central Time
Content: Family court professionals generally agree that domestic violence comes in many different shapes and sizes and impacts families in many and varied ways. The challenge comes in helping family court professionals differentiate the nature, context and implications of abuse - and account for those differences in child custody decision-making. This session explores the contours of coercive controlling abuse and offers guidance on making a case for coercive control to family court professionals. Parenting in the Context of Coercive Control
Wednesday, June 29, 2016 / 2:00-3:30 pm Central Time
Content: Recent years have seen a growing awareness that parenting in the context of domestic violence does not look the same in all families or under all circumstances - and that inattention to these variations can undermine effective parenting arrangements following separation. Family court practice must account for the myriad ways in which parenting in the context of domestic violence is enacted and experienced by individual people, including children and their separating parents. This session will offer guidance on identifying, understanding and accounting for the effects of coercive control on post-separation parenting and co-parenting.
