Effective Review of Natural Infant Deaths

Guest Speaker: Jason Jarzembowski, MD, PhD, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin
Dr. Jason Jarzembowski is an assistant professor of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and program director of Perinatal Pathology at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. His clinical expertise is in pediatric and perinatal pathology and focuses on fetal and placental examination. For the past five years he has also served as the medical advisor to the Infant Death Center, which helped spur his interest in SIDS and safe sleep education and research. In 2010, he helped begin the Children's Hospital's Safe Sleep Initiative and currently collaborates on several projects aimed at investigating the molecular underpinnings of SIDS, and at better understanding safe sleep practice and knowledge among parents and medical caregivers.
Speaker: Rosemary Fournier, FIMR Director, National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention
As the FIMR coordinator for the State of Michigan, Rosemary Fournier has provided technical assistance, training, and consultation to local FIMR programs for over 13 years. Her professional nursing experience includes Preconception Care and Counseling, Childbirth Education, Newborn Nursery, Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, NICU, and consultation for the Nurse Family Partnership, an evidence-based home visiting program.
Moderator: Diane Pilkey, RN, MPH
Diane Pilkey is a Senior Nurse Consultant at the Maternal and Child Health Bureau/ Health Resources and Services Administration and the federal project officer for the National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention cooperative agreement. Diane has more than 20 years of experience in public health at the local, state and federal level, including the Washington State Department of Health, where she worked as an epidemiologist and the Child Death Review Assessment Coordinator. Diane is a registered nurse who has practiced in both clinical and public health settings in both urban and rural settings.
Why attend: Every year, more than half of child deaths 0 - 19 are infants under the age of one, and a great majority of them are natural deaths due to prematurity and low birth weight. This webinar will provide attendees with a clear understanding of what records are needed for a successful CDR and/or FIMR review; what to look for in those records, identify opportunities for community-based prematurity prevention; and discuss common barriers to implementing prevention strategies.
