This webinar will share experiences from two health equity champions: Arthur R. James, MD, an obstetrician, gynecologist and pediatrician who has sought to improve care for underserved populations for the entirety of his medical career; and Denise Evans, MM, MA, a certified facilitator on cultural intelligence, health equity and social justice, and unconscious bias. Together, they will provide insights on:
• Successful programs that have addressed health equity
• Lessons learned about what led to those programs’ successes
• Strategies that programs and organizations can use to champion health equity in their work

Injuries and violence are leading causes of morbidity and mortality among U.S. children and adolescents. These injuries are preventable. Researchers have identified many strategies that are effective in preventing injuries in this population. “Evidence-based and Evidence-informed Strategies for Child and Adolescent Injury Prevention<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0011Klu59ljViBT--wUUNS8lYwPoSAE1d5Re3NMFtAJibsvZ3GxTi2vC9j0kUchZ16aHhOG3261sjQOwtPPRQOkXs-Nvx8JhPU_5Jvacv-LRvbqH6U-N1U2S3K2ba9kKESmfmg8NH-zwFN4cFn7T40PGLVs3wecgg59AFsdj14y7HEE0X7YUTbk4rOdUl1fJNh8Cnq5tCZStIew_ahGNuL0e5q0yL0SjtvKCMNztS2lbti_rC9q9CF9EeJroGSErhlP9ygdW8NbQUZmzGup-idErC-j1GghPcXQ&c=8G_WE7-Uv21P5H6ZZEGOcM3b_JnFhX1YvDF_kaUSQ722A2oP9fmdqg==&ch=8JZDdxX0COHhmw76_-efUIWj-iCNXM4wifv0RXLCWklCdp02Tfx33A==>” synthesizes findings from recent systematic reviews conducted or disseminated by five organizations that specialize in evidence-based public health. The Children’s Safety Network and the Children's Safety Now Alliance, representing injury prevention leaders and experts from national organizations, federal agencies, state health departments, hospitals, and universities, have created this paper to help state and local injury prevention practitioners—and others interested in child and adolescent injury prevention—better understand the existing evidence and identify knowledge gaps. These insights can help program planners make the best use of limited resources and implement strategies and programs that have the best chance of making a difference in promoting the safety and well-being of all children and adolescents.

Excerpt from Anne Seymour’s Monday Missives

v The American Academy of Pediatrics just released a paper/policy statement entitled “The Impact of Racism on Child and Adolescent Health.” Please take a moment to read this timely paper or its excellent abstract, and share widely: https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2019/07/25/peds.2019-1765.

v The National Children’s Alliance started a podcast channel in May of 2019 called One in Ten. This eye-opening series displays the multi-facetedness of child abuse by sitting down with experts in several fields to discuss the relevance of child abuse in their line of work. You can find One in Ten on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or listen to it by clicking the link: http://www.buzzsprout.com/280046

Many of our jobs in the victim services field include delivering workshops or trainings. The Advanced Trainer Institute will provide you with facilitation skills, tips for delivering online training successfully, methods to engage learners who have different learning styles, and ways to present and facilitate with cultural humility.

This training is designed for victim service providers who are currently delivering workshops, trainings, or making presentations and would like to learn how to make them more impactful.

The Advanced Trainer Institute will be delivered online, over the course of 5 weeks, beginning on August 5, 2019. Each week will include a facilitated webinar.

This training is part of the NVAA Advanced Skills Institute and, like all OVC TTAC trainings, there is no cost to participate. Please note: Space is limited. Apply today to reserve your seat.
