Summertime Tips and Tools to Keep Children Safe
The school year is coming to an end, and the freedom of summer will soon be upon teenagers across the country.
Many parents might need to consider whether their child is ready for more independence-a positive milestone if they're well-prepared and mature enough, but how can parents know?
Share this factsheet<https://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/448868/4026748/28782/2/> to help families, kinship and foster caregivers, and guardians in your community assess their child's readiness to be home without supervision. The factsheet also explains the differences in state laws.
During the summer, children and youth may also spend more time with their friends and around other families. Help them understand how to recognize and respond to signs of abuse and neglect with this guide<https://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/448868/4026748/44276/4/> designed for young kids.

Nearly 1,700 Suspected Child Sex Predators Arrested During Operation "Broken Heart"
The Department of Justice has announced <https://ojp.gov/newsroom/pressreleases/2019/ojp-news-06112019.pdf> that the recently concluded Operation "Broken Heart" led to the arrest of almost 1,700 suspected online child sex offenders. The OJJDP-funded Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Forces<https://www.ojjdp.gov/programs/ProgSummary.asp?pi=3&utm_source=JUVJUST061218&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=JUVJUST&utm_content=ICAC?utm_source=JUVJUST061119&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=ICAC&utm_campaign=programsummary> conducted this operation during the months of April and May 2019 as a coordinated investigation to identify and arrest suspected online child sex offenders. OJJDP launched the ICAC Task Force Program in 1998 to help federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies enhance their investigative responses to individuals who use the Internet, online communication systems, or computer technology to exploit children.

A trauma-informed organization is one where all practices and services are viewed through the lens of trauma. In a trauma-informed organization, programs respond empathetically to survivor needs, ensure their physical and emotional safety, develop realistic goals, and avoid re-traumatization. This training provides guidance on how your organization can become trauma-informed and how to modify policies and procedures to respond to trauma victims.
This training is designed for those responsible for designing and implementing their organization's programs and policies. It will be delivered online, over the course of 5 weeks, beginning on July 1, 2019. Each week, except for the introductory week, will include a facilitated webinar.
This training is part of the NVAA Advanced Skills Institute and, like all OVC TTAC trainings, there is no cost to participate. Please note: Space is limited. Apply today to reserve your seat.
