How demand is impacting service for Oregon residents
As many of you know, Oregonian residents are applying for medical, food, cash and childcare assistance at near historic levels. Approximately 1.5 million Oregonians are receiving these supports and services from the Oregon Department of Human Services and the Oregon Health Authority.
Despite these challenges, 38% of applications for benefits are processed within two business days.
This historic increase in need created by the COVID-19 pandemic has exceeded the State’s ability to serve Oregonians with its current staff, making it difficult to process applications in the timely manner Oregonians may be accustomed to. As a result, the agency is experiencing a backlog of cases, extended call wait-times and a significant increase in the number of Oregonians coming into ODHS local offices for in-person support.
Read the press release for more details & next steps<https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDEsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMTEyMDkuNDk5OTQ1NzEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL3d3dy5vcmVnb24uZ292L2Rocy9ESFNORVdTL05ld3NSZWxlYXNlcy9PREhTLUhpc3RvcmljLURlbWFuZC5wZGY_dXRtX21lZGl1bT1lbWFpbCZ1dG1fc291cmNlPWdvdmRlbGl2ZXJ5In0.5sdhbKjly-bhk1GUwisre_ZOuR8tCEm1qH7AonrsMbU/s/638006616/br/122606523192-l>

Tips to share with Oregon residents you serve
ODHS also is sharing guidance for Oregonians who may need to apply for benefits or who may be waiting to hear back from the state about the status of their benefits. We would appreciate your help in distributing these tips.
* Compile documents ahead of time
Before you begin an application, compile all documents you think you might need ahead of time. This can prevent your application from being delayed and taking additional time. These documents could include: Identification, proof of income, social security numbers or other documents to determine eligibility for anyone in the household who is applying for benefits.
* Submitted an application? No need to reapply.
If you have already submitted an online, in person or over the phone application you do not need to reapply. ODHS has your application and will process it as quickly as possible.
* Track your online application status.
If you applied through the ONE online application, you can track your application’s status using the same system you used to apply. Log in to https://one.oregon.gov/<https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDIsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMTEyMDkuNDk5OTQ1NzEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL29uZS5vcmVnb24uZ292Lz91dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9Z292ZGVsaXZlcnkifQ.OL_poSweEPhtmXSFrV3j_9AbU8iq0GtnekhXigLyvDc/s/638006616/br/122606523192-l> to start tracking. Note: This website is accessible on computers, tablets and phones, but it is not optimized for mobile viewing.
* Lowest wait times are in the morning
If you prefer to apply over the phone, the ONE Customer Service Center is open Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Currently hold times are lowest in the morning from 7 until 8 a.m.
People who are only applying for medical benefits can get free application help from an OHP-Certified Community Partner. Community Partners are trained and certified to help clients understand and use their health coverage options, including helping them complete eligibility and enrollment forms. A trauma-informed organization is one where all practices and services are viewed through the lens of trauma.
In a trauma-informed organization, programs respond empathically to survivor needs, ensure their physical and emotional safety, develop realistic goals, and avoid re-traumatization. The Building Trauma-Informed Organizations training provides guidance on how your organization can become trauma-informed and how to modify policies and procedures to respond to trauma victims.
This training is designed for those responsible for designing and implementing their organization’s programs and policies.

Each week, except for the introductory week, will include a facilitated webinar. There are recommended readings and videos, as well as written assignments. You should expect to spend about an hour per week on the assignments, in addition to participating in the 75-minute webinar. CEUs will be awarded for those who complete all requirements. You will find the training schedule here<https://www.ovcttac.gov/views/TrainingMaterials/NVAA/ASI/index.cfm?nm=nvaa&ns=asi&nt=sgo>.
This training is part of the NVAA Advanced Skills Institute, and, like all OVC TTAC trainings, there is no cost to attend.

Your board of directors sets the tone and direction of your organization.
How do you build a strong, diverse, and engaged board? Once you accomplish that, how do you maintain member involvement? The Developing and Managing a Board of Directors training will provide a step-by-step guide to building an effective board and strategies for keeping members involved and accountable. This training is intended for staff within victim service organizations who work closely with a board of directors. It is not for those who are serving on a board of directors.
This training<https://www.ovcttac.gov/views/TrainingMaterials/NVAA/EMS/index.cfm?nm=nvaa&ns=ems&nt=sgo&nf=dmbd> will be delivered online, over the course of 4 weeks, beginning on January 18, 2022. A significant amount of misinformation is present regarding the population of children and adolescents who sexually act out. It is often a population that providers, even those trained in TF-CBT, feel hesitant or unprepared to work with. This training will focus on preparing providers who are already trained in the TF-CBT model to work both effectively and safely with this population. The training will use the TF-CBT PRACTICE acronym as a base to build off of when applying PSB (Problematic Sexual Behavior) intervention approaches for youths and their families.
In addition, there will be opportunities for therapists to interact and share ideas and resources with each other.

Let's Be Real: The Urgent Need for Change in Child Welfare, Courts, and DV Programs
Let’s Be Real was the public plenary of “All of Us, Every Family,” the Quality Improvement Center on Domestic Violence in Child Welfare's March 2021 conference. There, a group of thought leaders from child welfare, dependency courts and domestic violence services grappled with the roles of each system in perpetuating structural racism and the urgent need for accountability and action. This critical conversation is now available as a video resource.
[Diagram Description automatically generated]
New Video Resource from the QIC-DVCW
Child welfare systems, dependency courts, and domestic violence programs have contributed to the conditions that result in disproportionate representation of families and survivors of color within child welfare, as well as racial disparities in access to help and services. Black and Indigenous children are over-represented in child welfare nationally, while Latinx children are over-represented in the system in more than 20 states.
If your work touches the lives of children and families impacted by domestic violence, the Quality Improvement Center on Domestic Violence in Child Welfare (QIC-DVCW) invites you to view our new video resource, Let's Be Real. This critical conversation among state and national leaders challenges us to take action and accountability to advance racial equity in multiple systems – so that every family experiencing domestic violence and child maltreatment can get real help.
