Trout Stocking Continues for Spring Break and Beyond=20

CLACKAMAS - Kids and adults will find plenty of legal-sized rainbow trout =
stocked by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in Northwest Oregon =
lakes and reservoirs for spring break angling opportunities.

"Spring break fishing is a long-time family tradition for many people, =
even though ODFW stocks trout year-round in some lakes," said Hal Boldt, =
Northwest Region Fish Liberation Coordinator.=20

ODFW will stock catchable-sized trout throughout the spring, summer and =
early fall in the Willamette Valley, with a few lakes receiving fish =
year-round. Stocking in higher elevation lakes begins in mid- to late =
April depending on weather-related access.=20

Lakes stocked before spring break include:=20
Benton County: E.E. Wilson Pond.
Clackamas County: Canby Pond and Roslyn Lake.
Lane County: Alton Baker Canal, Cottage Grove Pond, Cottage Grove =
Reservoir, Creswell Pond and Junction City Pond.
Linn County: Freeway Lake East, Roaring River Park Pond, Timber Linn Lake =
and Waverly Lake.
Marion County: St. Louis Ponds, Walling Pond and Walter Wirth Lake.
Multnomah County: Benson Lake, Blue Lake and Mt. Hood Pond.
Washington County: Bethany Pond, Commonwealth Lake, Dorman Pond and Henry =
Hagg Lake.
Yamhill County: Willamina Pond.

The number of stocked trout will be less than the normal allocation in =
some areas due to the presence of a common fish virus found in some trout =
reared at Leaburg Hatchery. The virus, known as IHN (infectious hematopoiet=
ic necrosis), is present in many river systems, but fish with the virus =
will not be released. Leaburg is one of four hatcheries supplying trout to =
stock certain lakes and reservoirs in the Willamette Valley and higher =
elevations.

ODFW will stock trout throughout the normally scheduled season, but the =
number of fish may change on short notice depending on the results of =
ongoing IHN testing as the stocking season progresses.=20

"I don't think anglers will notice a big difference, and there may even be =
areas stocked heavier than normal," said Boldt.

Stocking schedules are posted on ODFW's Web site at www.dfw.state.or.us =
and local offices have schedule information. Anglers are reminded that =
last minute scheduling changes are sometimes necessary.
