ODFW taking action to upgrade
license and tag sales system
SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is requesting
proposals to upgrade the aging computer system used to sell angling and
hunting licenses and tags, the agency announced today.
More than 500 agents throughout Oregon use the Point of Sale (POS)
system to sell licenses and tags. Agents range from small mom-and-pop
stores to large corporate chains.
"The existing system is outdated and inefficient," said Doug Juergensen,
Chief Information Officer for ODFW. "It's time to improve the entire POS
system to help the sales agents provide better service to anglers and
hunters."
ODFW staff, with input from the Oregon State Police, licensing agents
and the public, have reviewed the current system's capabilities,
determined the minimum business requirements of a new system, and
compiled a list of the functions customers and agents have requested.
The result is a 150-page set of 10 documents listing both minimum
requirements as well as desired features in a new system. The Request
for Proposal (RFP) will remain open for 45 days and will include a
conference at which bidders can ask questions about the RFP.
"Our goal is to have a new system installed and up and running before
the start of the fall 2006 hunting season," said Juergensen.
"Approximately 800,000 people purchase licenses and tags each year
through these agents. With that kind of volume it's crucial to have a
system in place that is efficient, offers the services customers need
and want, and supports the business needs of both the agency and the
agents."
