Advisors help guide Hatchery Research Center
SALEM - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today announced
15 fishers, scientists, educators and other public representatives have
been tapped as advisors to the new Hatchery Research Center, slated to
open this summer on the former site of the Fall Creek Fish Hatchery near
Alsea.
The center's mission is to investigate differences that may exist
between hatchery and wild salmon and steelhead, and develop ways to best
manage hatcheries to meet conservation and fisheries objectives. The
research will explore biological processes and how management decisions
affect watersheds, estuaries and the ocean.

She is the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Abernathy Fish
Technology Center near Longview.

a tireless volunteer for fish enhancement projects in the Alsea
watershed.

degree in engineering.
Dr. Thomas Ebert, of Alsea, representing science at large. Ebert lives
downstream from the Hatchery Research Center and is a population
biologist who taught and performed research at San Diego State
University. He served on several similar boards in California.
Jeff Hard, of Seattle, representing science at large. He works as a
population biologist for NOAA's Northwest Fish Science Center in
Seattle.
