Big game raffle and auction hunts earn record-level dollars for
hunting access and wildlife management programs

SALEM - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today announced
the state's 2005 big game auction and raffle hunts have raised a record
$515,800 for hunter access and wildlife improvement projects throughout
the state.

Winning raffle tickets for four deer, four elk, one combination deer and
elk, one pronghorn, one Rocky Mountain goat and one bighorn sheep hunt
were drawn on June 4, 2005 at the Oregon Hunters Association convention
in Seaside.

The last of the Access and Habitat Program auction tags also was sold at
the convention. The rest of the auction tags were offered at the
banquets of various hunter conservation organizations earlier this year,
including the OHA convention.

The bighorn sheep auction and raffle hunt program netted $170,841, which
will be used to fund bighorn sheep projects in 2005. This year's winner
bighorn raffle winner was Russell Young of Woodstock, IL.

Winners may hunt for either Rocky Mountain or California bighorn sheep
anywhere in Oregon where there is an authorized season and tag in 2005,
in an extended hunting season from Aug. 13 to Nov. 8.

The pronghorn hunt raffle winner is Mike Solt of Bend, OR. The auction
and raffle netted $41,053. This is the second year pronghorn hunt tags
have been offered for raffle and auction. The revenue is dedicated to
the pronghorn program.

Tag winners may hunt anywhere there is a pronghorn season, including
Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge. The extended season runs from
Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, 2005.

The Rocky Mountain goat raffle tag was won by Todd Erickson of Carlton,
OR. The raffle netted $8,400 for the Rocky Mountain goat program. This
is the second year that Rocky Mountain goat tags have been raffled.

The winner may hunt for an extended season from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31,
2005, in any part of the state where there is an authorized Rocky
Mountain goat season and tags in 2005.

This year the Access and Habitat Program offered nine deer and/or elk
auction hunts including four statewide deer hunts, four statewide elk
hunts and one combination statewide elk and deer hunt.

The sale of the auction hunts generated $196,200 for the Access and
Habitat Program. The funds will be used for hunter access and wildlife
habitat improvement projects throughout the state.

Deer and elk auction hunt winners will be able to hunt during an
extended season that runs from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, 2005, across multiple
management units.

The 2005 Access and Habitat Program Deer and Elk Raffle Hunts generated
$99,234 to help fund projects that increase public hunting access and
improve wildlife habitat throughout the state.
