Fire at E.E. Wilson provides training for area firefighters
SALEM - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today announced
plans to use a controlled fire Saturday to remove a structure in the EE
Wilson Wildlife Area.
The burn is expected to last approximately 8 hours, and will involve
more than 40 firefighters participating from Adair Rural Fire and Rescue
as well as firefighters from Tangent, Monmouth, and Albany.
"The existing structure is old, deteriorated, and unsuitable for ODFW
operations," said Kenneth Condon, ODFW Education Services Section
Manager. "It needs to be cleared to make room for future structures.
Partnering with area fire protection services saves ODFW substantial
demolition costs, and this controlled burn provides a much-needed
training opportunity for area firefighters."
Nearly a dozen of the firefighters scheduled to participate Saturday are
using the opportunity to become certified to enter burning buildings.
