Trout Stocked for Youth Fishing Event

Eugene - Young people interested in angling can find a great fishing
opportunity March 12 at Garden Lake Park in Creswell.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is stocking 1,000 rainbow
trout into Garden Lake Park's Creswell Pond as part of the Youth Angling
Enhancement Program, now in its second year. ODFW staff and volunteers
will provide fishing equipment and angling instruction from 9:30 a.m. to
noon.

"This is a great opportunity to introduce children to the fun of fishing
and encourage participation in outdoor recreation activities," said ODFW
Outdoor Skills and Natural Resources Education Coordinator Paula Booth.
"A lot of credit goes to the Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation for all
their hard work and financial contributions to help make this event
possible."

The program is made possible through a $50,000 appropriation from the
Oregon Legislature and a partnership with the Oregon Wildlife Heritage
Foundation, which has pledged an additional $50,000 and is working with
ODFW to develop and promote youth fishing opportunities throughout the
state.

Anglers under the age of 13 can fish for free. A juvenile license is
required for anglers 14-17 years of age. All state fishing regulations
continue to apply.

"This event is for kids, so while the standard fishing regulations will
apply, we ask adults to leave the fishing to the young ones for a few
days," said Erik Moberly, ODFW biologist.

Garden Lake is located in Garden Lake Park in Creswell. From I-5, take
the Creswell exit (Exit 182), heading east on Cloverdale Road. Turn
north on Melton Road and travel approximately half a mile to Garden Lake
Park.

Contact Erik Moberly in the Springfield ODFW office at 541-726-3515 for
more information.
