Commission to consider commercial sardine issues
SALEM - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today announced a
special commission meeting May 1 to discuss the eligibility rules of
Oregon's limited entry commercial sardine fishery, and to decide whether
to initiate rulemaking proceedings or deny petitions submitted by two
fishermen.
The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. via conference call at ODFW
Headquarters, 3406 Cherry Avenue NE in Salem. Members of the public are
invited to listen to the meeting and offer public comment by calling
1-877-214-0402, and using the access code 144858.
Two commercial sardine fishermen have submitted petitions requesting the
Commission to amend eligibility requirement rules for limited entry
sardine permits.
The Commission in December moved sardines from the developmental
fisheries list and adopted a limited entry system for the fishery. At
that time, the Commission adopted eligibility requirements for the
fishery that were developed through eight public meetings of the
industry and the state Developmental Fisheries Board.
The Administrative Procedures Act requires the Commission to deny
petitions or initiate rulemaking proceedings within 90 days of receipt
of a rulemaking petition.
The Commission is the policy making body for fish and wildlife issues in
the state. The seven-member panel meets monthly. Agenda item exhibits
may be requested by calling the ODFW Director's Office at 800-720-6339
or 503-947-6044. Agenda items also can be found on ODFW's Web site at
www.dfw.state.or.us/agency/commission/minutes/.
Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals
requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or
large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations
may call the ODFW Director's Office at 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044 at
least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
