Nuisance wildlife control operator advisory group to meet in Salem

SALEM - State wildlife officials today announced the first meeting of
the Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator Advisory Group, April 26 at
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Headquarters in Salem. The
meeting is scheduled from 1- 4:45 p.m.

The Advisory Group will provide input to ODFW as it develops Oregon
Administrative Rules to implement actionable recommendations from the
2004 Task Force on Wildlife Control Activities.

Senate Bill 832, passed by the 2003 Legislative Assembly, created the
Task Force. Its purpose is to make recommendations on the development of
a system of licensing and regulating businesses conducting nuisance,
damage or public health risk animal control operations.

The Task Force adopted 16 recommendations, which were presented to the
Legislative interim committee related to natural resources in September
2004 and to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission (Commission) in
January 2005. Most of the recommendations can be implemented by the
Commission through an administrative rule process, and the Commission
directed ODFW staff to develop administrative rules accordingly.

Wednesday's agenda includes reviewing the Task Force recommendations,
starting to identify key issues and considerations, and key components
of a standard statewide Authorization Letter to be issued to nuisance
wildlife control operators.

An opportunity for public comment is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 4:45
p.m. A teleconference line also is available for members of the public
who wish to listen to the meeting but cannot attend in person.

Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals
requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or
large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations
may call the Information and Education Division at 800-720-6339 or
503-947-6002 at least 4 hours in advance of the meeting.
