Stakeholder team to meet on Lower Columbia River recovery plan

SALEM - State fisheries officials today announced a March 9 meeting of a
newly formed stakeholder committee, assembled to help develop recovery
plans for coho, chum, and chinook salmon and steelhead on the Lower
Columbia River.

The committee will meet from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Judge Guy
Boyington Building, 857 Commercial Street, in Astoria.

Members of the stakeholder team represent watershed councils, tribal,
agriculture, forestry, conservation, recreation, fishing, commerce and
local governments.

Input from the stakeholder team will assist the State of Oregon and NOAA
Fisheries in developing a recovery plan for the region that extends from
Hood River to Astoria, upstream to Willamette Falls. Interested members
of the public are invited to attend. Public comments will be taken at
3:30 p.m.

The team will review state and federal recovery planning, Oregon's
Native Fish Conservation Policy, designing and implementing the recovery
plan, and developing a work plan and timelines for completing the plan.
They also will receive an overview of salmon and steelhead planning in
the Northwest and will discuss a recovery plan for the Lower Columbia
River.
