Youth fishing event scheduled for Sunnyside Pond

SWEET HOME - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife today announced a
youth fishing event May 13 at the Sunnyside Park Pond near Sweet Home.

ODFW will stock 800 trout in the pond for the event as part of the Youth
Angling Enhancement Program, now in its third year.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ODFW will provide young
anglers with loaner rods and reels, bait and tackle, and volunteers from
the Albany Chapter of the Northwest Steelheaders will be available to
help the kids develop their fishing skills and to learn about cleaning
and caring for their catch.

"This event is specifically for the kids," said ODFW Assistant District
Fish Biologist Wayne Hunt. "We want to encourage children as they learn
to fish, and hope they enjoy an activity that can provide lifelong
recreation. We also want to encourage parents to come along and see just
how much fun the kids are having."

Anglers 13 years of age and under can fish for free. A juvenile license
is required for anglers 14-17 years of age. All state fishing
regulations continue to apply.
The pond is located next to Foster Reservoir in the Linn County
Sunnyside Park and Campground, about 4 miles east of Sweet Home.

For more information contact Wayne Hunt at (503) 378-6925.
