Youth fishing event scheduled for Commonwealth Lake
CLACKAMAS - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife today announced a
youth fishing event May 13 at Commonwealth Lake in Cedar Hills.
ODFW will stock 2,500 trout in the pond for the event as part of the
Youth Angling Enhancement Program, now in its third year.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ODFW will provide young
anglers with loaner rods and reels, bait and tackle, and volunteers will
be available to help the kids develop their fishing skills and care for
their catch.
"This event is specifically for the kids," said ODFW Fish Biologist Jeff
Fulop. "We want to encourage children as they learn to fish, and hope
they enjoy an activity that can provide lifelong recreation. We also
want to encourage parents to come along and see just how much fun the
kids are having."
Anglers 13 years of age and under can fish for free. A juvenile license
is required for anglers 14-17 years of age. All state fishing
regulations continue to apply.
Commonwealth Lake is a three-acre lake located in Cedar Hills. To attend
the event use Sunset Highway and exit at Cedar Hills Boulevard and
travel south. Turn right on Foothills Drive and follow it to the lake.
