Columbia River spring Chinook season reopens above Bonneville Dam

Salem - State fish and wildlife officials decided today to reopen the
recreational spring Chinook season in the Columbia River above
Bonneville Dam effective 12:01 May 13, 2006.

The area between the Tower Island power lines and McNary Dam and the
Oregon bank between Bonneville Dam and the Tower Island power lines was
reopened to the retention of adipose fin-clipped spring Chinook, adipose
fin-clipped steelhead, and shad. These regulations are effective May 13
through June 16 and set a two salmon or steelhead daily bag limit.

The Columbia River spring Chinook season was closed in April due to
extremely low counts of fish at Bonneville Dam. Daily counts have since
improved dramatically, giving fish managers the ability to provide
additional angling opportunities.

Managers will meet again Monday, May 15, to analyze dam counts and
consider additional recreational and commercial seasons for spring
Chinook in the lower Columbia River.
