Hello ODLC Community,

As we move into Fall, we are closing in on our Fall Governing Board Meeting. I have attached an agenda, and a corrected copy of the proposed bylaws change, to this email.

Once again, the meeting will be at 3PM on Wednesday, October 14, via Zoom. If you are on the Governing Board, please plan to attend. If you are not, feel free to join us as well, if you like, but be aware that you won't get to vote on any measures.

There is some news I can pass on as well regarding grants. Before I do, I want to be sure to thank everyone who has put their volunteer time towards preparing grant proposals and reporting on grants for our consortium. A lot of work goes in to this, and it benefits all of our patrons and communities. Special shout-outs go to Rebecca Gabert, our Selection Committee Chair, and also Elizabeth Sonstegaard, the incoming Vice Chair, and Kathryn Kohl, the outgoing Chair, for keeping up with this process.

That said, the news is that our CARES Act grant for increasing the budget for Spanish-language materials was not accepted. We did get feedback from two anonymous reviewers that was mostly positive, but suggestions were made that "more details regarding the potential number of current and future patrons that could be impacted by the infusion of the resources provided by the grant would better support the need for adding the identified resources," and that "I'd like to see a commitment to a smaller investment in Spanish language ebooks for next year regardless of the IMLS Cares funding, as that would have better demonstrated demand."

The demographic data above would be hard to collect under the best of circumstances, but ODLC is making the commitment suggested by the second reviewer. We did receive additional LSTA funds to offset the two last months' budget to the amount of $24,000 and the Selection Committee Chair has earmarked more than half of what we saved ($13,500) for increasing the Spanish-language collection. This represents our commitment to making the collection more diverse and beginning the process of collecting data that could support future grant requests.

Thank you all for your commitment to ODLC and our bright future!
