Dear OGIC members and friends,
In preparation for our discussion at the next quarterly OGIC meeting I'm writing to briefly report to you on how your legislative recommendation fared in the recent session. We heard via several of you--and from some additional stakeholders--that some of the key constituencies you represent only had energy to offer active support to actual bills. That was understandable given the high level of activity this session.
Given that reality, OGIC leadership focused effort on the Joint Legislative Committee on Information Management and Technology (JLCIMT) co-chairs and a few other key legislators. The good news is that the co-chairs in particular were conceptually supportive. With a little assistance from the Metro lobbyist we persuaded them to commission and make one internal revision to a "legislative concept." Getting the LC into reasonable shape took some time given the many other pressing matters drawing their attention. The bad news is that just as the co-chairs directed staff to schedule the LC for a hearing, the Senate President shut down the policy committees to try to free up the session's logjam.
We have, based on some suggestions from Metro's lobbyist, conceived some ideas on how best to work the interim period between now and the next session. Please come prepared to the quarterly meeting to offer your thoughts.
I look forward to seeing you on July 31st!
Regards,
