Hello everyone,

Canby has developed a "New Business Welcome Packet" that includes:

-Welcome letter
-Contacts
-Demographics of the City
-Major employers in the area
-Frequently asked questions
-Small business tools and resources
-How to create a Yelp Business Account (For Main Street businesses)

My Economic Development Director and I divvy up the new business list every month that we receive based on new business licenses and coordinate meetings or drop-ins with new businesses to welcome them to the community. My role is coordinating meetings with Main Street businesses and she focuses on the industrial park businesses. This is definitely time consuming but also a great step to show businesses there is support for the business community. It's also a great informal way to assess what their needs are as a small business and what attracted them to locating in your area, so your organization can focus on reinforcing those strengths.

Attached are pdf versions of the materials we include in the welcome packet. This is a fairly new program and we're working towards developing some material for employees of new businesses. We're looking to create some sort of restaurant guide, retail, auto ect. directory that highlights local businesses in town so employees can look to those businesses first.

Since this is a fairly new program for us, I welcome any suggestions to add to the packets!

Hello all,

Springfield is in the process of developing a toolkit of materials to support existing businesses and recruit new business to the downtown. We have listed out much of the content that will be in our toolkit, but would like examples of how other communities have structured the information and how you market it and make it available to business owners.

So, what information do you provide to potential/existing business owners to make sure that they are successful in your downtown and what are the most effective strategies for how to make that information available to them?

Any copies of materials that you can provide would be much appreciated.
