Lebanon Merchants Get Ready for the Gingerbread Man

Greetings! 41% of participating businesses more than double normal traffic the day of the event and 35% reported more than double normal sales. One business reported 88 customers compared to a normal of 15-20 and one business had their best day of the year! 82% of participants reported new customers coming into the store. Favorite things about the day included increased traffic downtown, a sense of community and working together, and the opportunity for sidewalk sales.  Some suggestions for improving next year included a revamp of the prize system, starting earlier so stores have more time to prepare (Next year's event will be October 6, 2012), encouraging more sidewalk sales, moving home businesses to main street in front of vacant stores or inside vacant stores, and adding arts and crafts vendors. 82% of participants said they will definitely plan to participate again next year.  It was also noted that we need more signage and advertising outside of the core downtown area and next year we hope to have more signs perhaps along airport road, highway 34 and oak street where people are coming into town.

Following discussion of the business faire Sally Skaggs presented her idea for a holiday Gingerbread Man Walk downtown.  This event would be a fun, interactive event that would last throughout the holiday season and keep people interested in shopping downtown.   The group unanimously agreed to go for the Gingerbread Man Walk and a committee was formed to work on the event with Sally Skaggs as the chair. Thier first meeting will be oct 19th at Santiam Place at 6:00.  Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Store Promotions

Each store can have their own special promotions that might include such things as gingerbread decorating contests, how to workshops, % off ginger colored products, books on sale that feature the gingerbread man, free gingerbread recipes.  Limited only to your imagination,  
Window Decorations

Window decorations
Stores can decorate their windows with the gingerbread man theme. Perhaps a window contest could be held.  Get creattive and combine Christmas in Paradise with the gingerbread man! 
Follow the Crumbs

Follow the crumbs and fill your passport with stamps from participating stores to win prizes. 


Light up Your Windows for the Holidays
Make plans now to participate in Christmas and refuse to participate in any holiday recession!  If everyone works together it can be a great holiday season in Lebanon.

ParadeDon't forget there will be a Christmas Parade this year in Lebanon!  The parade will be December 3rd prior to the tree lighting.  This year's theme:  Christmas in Paradise.  Get those floats ready! 
Parade will be from Boys and Girls club up Rose down Main to Oak and back to Grant or the Park. If you would like to help with the parade contact Dala Johnson at  541-258-4339
