1. EXCELLENCE IN DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION AWARDS
Oregon Main Street, administered by the State Historic Preservation
Office (Oregon Parks and Recreation Department), is now accepting
nominations for the 2012 Excellence in Downtown Revitalization Awards.
All communities participating in the Oregon Main Street Network
(Performing Main Street, Transforming Downtown, Exploring Downtown, and
Affiliate) may submit nominations. Awards will be presented during a
special ceremony at the Oregon Main Street Conference, October 3-5, in
Corvallis. 
  
To be eligible, all projects, activities, or events submitted for
recognition must be completed between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012.
Nominations are due by 3 pm July 30, 2012 to: Sheri Stuart, Oregon Main
Street, 725 Summer St. NE, Ste. C, Salem, OR 97301 
  
To be considered for an award, please complete the attached nomination
form. Only complete applications will be considered. Additional
information is in the attached RFP. 
  
Award categories open to all levels of Oregon Main Street include:
Outstanding Partnership, Outstanding Facade or Building Rehab Project,
Outstanding Design Project, Best Public Improvement,
Sustainability/Green Award, Business Success Story, Best Business
Retention/Recruitment Program, Outstanding Organizational Project,
Innovation Award 
  
Award categories open to Performing Main Street and Transforming
Downtown levels only: Main Street Manager of the Year and Volunteer of
the Year

2. MAKING YOUR MAIN STREET STORES POP!
 
Join us for our Summer Oregon Main Street Workshop - Making Your Main
Street Stores Pop! - on Wednesday, July 18, 8 am to noon, Port Orford
Library, Port Orford. Please feel free to distribute this email to your
downtown business owners, fellow community organizations, or others you
think might be interested.
This is an interactive workshop for both small and large store owners.
It is a combination of a 1.5 hour visual merchandising and store design
presentation with approximately 2 hours "hands on" small group exercise
to design a store. This is a powerful, fun, challenging, and exciting
workshop!

Speaker Info: Linda Cahan has been in Visual Merchandising, Store
Design, and Display since 1971. She is an internationally recognized
expert in visual merchandising with extensive marketplace experience.
Linda’s breadth of experience has included all segments of retail
including: fashion, technology, tools, gifts, accessories, furniture,
independents, and corporations. Cahan & Company focuses on delivering
solutions aided by smart and appropriate Visual Merchandising, training
staff and VM teams, and working with independent, regional, and national
retailers on enhancing and improving their images and sales.
 
As a seminar leader, Linda speaks on a wide variety of retail topics
nationally and internationally and is a member of the National Speakers
Association. Her seminars are consistently rated in the “above average”
and “excellent” category by attendees at conferences and trade shows.
Linda writes for several B-to-B retail magazines. She has authored: “100
Displays Under $100”, “Feng Shui for Retailers”, “A Practical Guide to
Visual Merchandising,” as well as seven custom corporate visual
standards manuals for major corporations in the USA and South America.
Currently Linda’s expertise is shared part-time with students at The Art
Institute of Portland, OR. Formerly, she taught at Parsons School of

3. HPLO OFFERS NATIONAL PRESERVATION CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS 
The Historic Preservation League of Oregon (HPLO) is offering
scholarships to Oregon residents and full-time students in an Oregon
university to attend the 2012 National Preservation Conference in
Spokane. 
 
The conference, which runs October 31 through November 3, will feature
a range of educational sessions, field trips, affinity programs, and
activities all related to the preservation of historic places. This
year, the annual conference will focus heavily on sustainability,
diversity, public lands, and reimagining historic sites. 
 
The scholarship will provide reimbursement for costs associated with
attending the conference, including registration fees, travel, lodging,
and food. HPLO will accept applications from June 18 - July 15 and will
announce decisions by phone on July 27. Those awarded a scholarship
should plan to attend a special Northwest Regional Scholarship
Orientation in Spokane on Oct. 31 from 3 – 4 p.m.  To download an
