1. New Publication: "Historic Preservation & Energy Efficiency: A Guide
for Historic Commercial Buildings" Pacific Power, in collaboration with
the Oregon Main Street Program (
http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/SHPO/pages/mainstreet.aspx ) and Energy
Trust of Oregon ( http://energytrust.org/ ), recognized a need for a
resource guide to assist small commercial property owners and
businesspeople with energy efficiency in historic buildings. The 44-page
guide, Historic Preservation & Energy Efficiency: A Guide For Historic
Commercial Buildings (PDF) (
http://www.pacificpower.net/content/dam/pacific_power/doc/Business/Save_Energy_Money/OR_HistoricPreservation_EnergyEfficiency_Booklet.pdf
) offers details on how to retain existing energy-efficient features and
implement new technologies while maintaining the building’s character.
View the guide at: http://www.pacificpower.net/bus/se/tr/hpee.html
Information in the booklet was compiled by the students and faculty of
Clatsop Community College ( https://www.clatsopcc.edu/ ) in Astoria,
Oregon. The college offers a degree in Historic Preservation and
Restoration (
https://www.clatsopcc.edu/academics/academic-departments/industrial-manufacturing-technology/historic-preservation-restoration
) that integrates green building practices. The program reflects the
National Trust for Historic Preservation’s motto, “the greenest building
is the one already built.”2. Webinar: How to Bring Your Downtown to
Life, Thursday, July 11, 9 am PT
25% off promo code: OR13WEBINAR
"How to Bring Your Downtown to Life" is an interactive webinar brought
to you by Destination Development International. Every downtown should
be a hub of activity for both locals and visitors. And when it comes to
visitors, if you don’t hang out in your downtown neither will they. They
go where you go. The most successful downtowns encourage, and often pay,
buskers, street performers, artisans and vendors to bring life to
downtowns. Attendees will get sample “codes of conduct” and a wealth of
information that will help you bring your downtown to life. Oregon Main
Street Network communities are eligible for a 25% discount - use the
promo code, OR13WEBINAR when you register. Registration & additional
