Good Morning Everyone,
I am the Main Street Coordinator in The Dalles and we are working on a
parklet program in our downtown area.
Not sure if everyone is familiar with parklets, but a parklet is an
extension of the sidewalk into 1-2 or more parking spaces. This creates a
space where tables, art, bike racks, even pianos can be placed.
Our City is supportive of this program and we are moving closer and closer
to installing the first one. The first parklet will simply be a public
space.
Several businesses have approached us wanting to invest and build their own
additional parklets but only if they can serve both food and alcohol in
"their" parklet. Our City is reluctant to allow this and simply wants them
to be public spaces but then the business owners are not interested in
investing in them.
I would also be interested in any information or ordinances that we could
use as an example to make our City more comfortable I guess and moving in
the right direction.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Matthew B. Klebes
